DVA Allied Health Online Claiming Minimize

ALLIED HEALTH

DVA Allied Health Online Claiming allows Allied Health service providers to
submit electronic claims for processing without the need to send any
paperwork to Medicare Australia. Allied Health service providers will still need
to retain the paperwork for audit purposes.

ELIGIBLE PROVIDERS

Software is now available to software vendors to develop Online Claiming for
Allied Health service professionals including Dental Providers.

WHAT ARE THE KEY REASONS FOR USING DVA ALLIED HEALTH ONLINE?

  • Allied Health service providers can submit DVA claims electronically for processing and payment. This may reduce administration and management costs.
  • Less manual intervention – fewer errors and speedier resolutions.
  • Online Claiming ensures a secure connection for the lodgement of claims.
  • Remittance advice statements detailing payment of claims allow automated
    account reconciliation.
  • Online Veteran Verification confirms the veteran’s details are known to DVA
prior to submission of a claim.
  • Fewer data errors due to the capacity to check the validity of patient details
with DVA in real time.Claims may be transmitted 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

VETERAN VERIFICATION

Online Claiming contains an inbuilt veteran verification system. This is an
automated function which means that when providers submit their claims, the
system checks that the veteran’s details are correct and that the veteran is
known to DVA. If the details are not correct, the details must be corrected and
the claim resubmitted. This verification system is for identification purposes
only – prior financial approval will still need to be sought where required.

 DENTICARE - In Brief Minimize

The Interim Report of the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission was released in December 2008, the commission established by the Prime Minister and Health Minister in February 2008 was tasked with developing a long-term health reform plan for Australia.

Numerous submissions and discussions took place in order to develop this report into a concise and honest document that was mindful of the importance that such a body of work could contain. All submissions available via www.nhhrc.org.au

A Portion of the report ‘Facing inequities: recognise and tackle the causes and impacts of health inequities’ discusses the need for Australia to be able to offer equitable access to dental care. Thus the development of ‘Denticare Australia’.

Under this scheme all Australians would be covered for preventive diagnostic and restorative services, including extractions and DENTURES. The scheme would be funded by an increase in the Medicare Levy of 0.75% of taxable income
allowing those on a low income to pay a relatively small extra amount but have far better access to dental health services.

This report is reliant on two strategies;

  • Expand the clinical experience and training of the dental workforce, introducing a one-year internship scheme prior to full registration.Note only Dentists, Hygienists and Therapists were mentioned - what about DP/DT’s
  • Propose to move to a nationally expanded Pre-school and school dental program.

CUSTOM MADE MEDICAL DEVICES - Draft Guidance Document Minimize

Brief Summary

The guidance document is one of a series of documents produced to assist a wide-ranging audience to understand the regulatory system of medical devices in Australia that commence on 4 October 2002.

The regulatory framework for medical devices contains provisions for the regulation of manufacturers and sponsors of custom made medical devices, and components of customized medical devices intended by the manufacturer to be assembled into a finished medical device for a specific user.
At the initial implementation of this regulatory system there was an aspect that was not immediately required of manufacturers and sponsors, that of the Notification of manufacturing activities to the TGA, it is now being introduced as a final step in the establishment of the regulations.

Your comments are invited on the draft guidance document on the regulation of custom made medical devices, including the proposal to introduce this notification requirement of activities and/or products to the TGA.

To ensure your comments are incorporated in an ADPA submission they should be received by Monday 9th March 2009. If you have any queries regarding the draft document, please contact Dimitti Huxley on 0431 445 031.

 POLIDENT ADVERTISING Minimize

GSK and the ADPA worked together to bring you the television campaign for Polident. GSK undertook an Australia wide search for the ‘face of Dental Prosthetics’ and after idol-like auditions Mr Steve McGlynn was the judges choice.

The Federal Executive should be congratulated for encouraging GSK to promote Dental Prosthetics in this way.
