Dentist cops Medicare $700,000 bill over paperwork MEDICARE Australia is under fire for demanding a Melbourne dentist repay more than $700,000 simply for failing to comply with the paperwork requirements of a scheme designed to fix the teeth of patients with wider health problems. Helen Arabatzis was sent a tax invoice from Medicare in June, requiring her to repay $713,803.80 within 30 days for incorrectly claiming rebates under its Chronic Disease Dental Scheme. The scheme, introduced in 2007 by the Howard government, allows patients with a chronic disease linked to their dental problems to receive $4250 worth of treatment over two years, once they have been referred to a private dentist by a GP.
